A Guide to The Giants of Mandurah

The Giants of Mandurah are the work of Danish recycle artist Thomas Dambo. Overall, there are five of the large-scale art pieces around the Mandurah Region (and another in Subiaco).

Getting To Mandurah

The first step in seeing the Giants is to get to Mandurah. From Perth, it is 70km south of the Perth CBD. Depending on where you are coming from, it takes about an hour down the Kwinana Freeway. Alternatively, you can take a 55-minute train from the Perth Underground Train Station.

If you do go by train, keep in mind that you are going to need some form of transport to get around to the Giants. Fortunately, there are options, and you can hire an e-bike or electric scooter.

Mandurah Visitor Centre

The starting point to find the giants is at the Mandurah Visitor Centre. Here you can obtain a map and guidebook which will give you directions to 4 of the installations. You can also download a free map.

If needed, you can find The Bike Kiosk located near the visitor centre. From here, you can hire an e-bike, or even book a tour of the giants (book ahead for this).

The Giants of Mandurah

Santi Ikto

Santi Ikto is probably the closest giant to the Mandurah Visitor Centre and a good place to start. From the car park, it’s about a 20-minute round-trip walk to the the Giant. This is along a bitumen track, although there is a short sand trail in the final section. While walking along the path find Santi Ikto, you can enjoy coastal wildflowers and ocean views.

After a 10-minute or so walk, you’ll find the bushy-bearded Santi Ikto sitting cross-legged looking out across the ocean.

Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone

About another 10 drive away is the Coodanup home of the friendly-faced Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone. This is the newest of the five pieces, created as a replacement for Vivi Cirkelstone. Unfortunately, Vivi Cirkelstone was burnt to the ground, and Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone was installed nearby.

Little Lui

Your hunt for Little Lui will take you to swampland at Marlee Reserve. From the suggested carpark, you follow a signposted track for about 20 minutes into the heart of the reserve. There you will find a seated Giant, propped up against a naturally fallen tree. The roots of the tree are used as part of his hair.

Seba’s Song

Seba’s Song is located in Wannanup and looks out over the marina. The position makes it a little difficult to take good pictures, but it’s still worth the 500m-600m walk from the carpark.

Jyttes Hytte – The Hidden Giant

Jyttes Hytte is a much more secretive giant, that is in hiding, Part of the adventure of the giant is collecting clues as to where Jyttes Hytte is located. He’s a little more out of town than the others.

Once you have located his whereabouts, you can drive to the area where he is located. From the car park, it’s about a 20-30 minute walk each way to the giant. Be aware that while it is a fairly flat path, it is not sealed

Billie Bob

Billie Bob headed off on his own adventure and became a little lost. At the moment, he can be found in the Perth suburb of Subiaco.
