Planning a day trip from Perth to the Pinnacles

The Pinnacles are unique natural attractions located about 2 hours north of Perth. As such, they are close enough to Perth for a day trip, and you will still have time to check out at a few other attractions in the area. In particular, while in the area, you may wish to check out the Lancelin Sand Dunes.

In this guide, I will take a look at planning the trip there, and some other activities I think are worth doing while there.

The Plan

If you were planning a day trip, I would look at doing something like this

  • Perth to Cervantes: Approximately 2 hour drive
  • Visit Pinnacles
  • There a couple of options for lunch

    • Option 1 – head to Cervantes to the Lobster Shack. You can even have a tour of their factory
    • Option 2 = head to Lancelin to the Endeavour Tavern
  • After lunch, head to the Lancelin Sand Dunes
  • Visit the Lancelin Sand dunes
  • Return to Perth – about 1.5 hours

Of course, you could swap things around, and go to the sand dunes first. You choice of lunch could be dictated by this. Going to the Pinnacles first, I would likely try the Lobster Shack for lunch. However, if I tried the sand dunes first, I would be tempted to have lunch at the Endeavour Tavern.

Either way, I would aim to be on the road by mid-morning.

Pinnacles

As I noted, the Pinnacle are about 2 hours north of Perth. At The Pinnacles, you can take a stroll through the iconic Pinnacles. Or alternatively, you can drive your car around the park. While it is not a sealed road, it is generally suitable for your average two wheel drive car.

Lancelin Sand Dunes

One of the main attractions in Lancelin is the Sand dunes. Here, you can enjoy your time sand boarding, riding a quad bike, or driving a four wheel drive around.

While you can hire sand boards, or quad bikes, you’d probably be best supplying your own 4WD.

Lunch

There are a range of options for having lunch in the area.

Option 1 – Lobster Shack Cervantes

At the Lobster Shack, you can get a good feed of seafood. While lobster is the draw card, you could stick to fish and chips if you desire.

While there, you can inquire about a 30-minute Factory Tour. This tour gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the way lobsters are processed on the way to your lunch plate.

Option 2 – Endeavour Tavern Lancelin

Another option in the area is the Endeavour Tavern in Lancelin. It’s big claim to fame is its beer garden, where you can enjoy lunch while looking out over the Indian Ocean.
