Quinninup Falls – Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park

Quinninup Falls

Quinninup Falls is an ocean-facing 10m waterfall near the Cape-to-Cape Trail in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. From the falls, the water runs down to the Indian Ocean.

On a recent Septemeber weekend, I went to have a look. From a timing perspective, it wasn’t too bad. While there had only been a little rain, the falls were likely to still be running. They can dry up during summer.

Quinninup Falls Location

Quinninup Falls is located just south of Yallingup. Or if you are coming from Perth, it is just over a 3-hour drive. Having said that, I don’t think you’d make a special trip from Perth to see it. If you are generally in the area, it may be worth spending a bit of time to get there.

Getting There

Quinninup Falls isn’t exactly an overly well-known waterfall. Perhaps it is because it is not the easiest of fall to get to. In fact, using a GPS to get there could lead you astray.

The best way to get there is to walk there. And that’s not always a bad thing. Some of the scenery on the way is quite stunning.

Firstly, you should head toward Moses Rock Road North car park. After parking, find the Cape to Cape trail. You’ll follow this for about half an hour, before taking a diversion inland toward the falls.

The Walking Trail

Once you have parked your car, look for the Cape to Cape trail. This is likely to your right, and you will see some log steps and a sign pointing the way.

Once you have found that, the idea is basically to stay on the track. It is a track that will have you walking over some diverse terrain. There is limestone, there are rocks,  there’s mud, there’s a bridge, a boardwalk, and there’s a sand dune. It would be wise to have a decent pair of shoes.

Along the way, it worth taking in the view of the coast. The coastline is quite stunning, and there isn’t much else around. The other thing to watch out for, as you come over the dune a red patch of earth. You will pass that patch on the way to the falls.

The Way Back

Once you are there, you have to get back. Fortunately, it is just going in reverse to how you go there. There is one small challenge though. On the way back, you have to go up the steep side of the sand dune. It can be a challenge, especially if you tend to keep sliding back down.
